Some of the bullshit words listed here have explanations, some don't. There are certain radar words - such as genuine, safe, traditional and many more - that  need no explanation other than that the BS brigade likes to use them.

Is bullshit a dirty word?
THE Times of  London is a fussy newspaper as a tale about Queen Mary (full name Queen Victoria Mary Augusta Louis Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes)  illustrates.
Back in the 1920s it reputedly fired a compositor who typed "Queen Mary's procession pissed over the bridge" instead of "passed over the bridge." The Times today is still fussy and never prints the word shit - but  bullshit often gets a mention.
Recently the London-based Guardian newspaper ran an article exploring the "forbidden word," forbidden by the BBC, that is, but now apparently licensed by Britain's Minister of Culture, Kim Howells.
Howells had described a recent work of art as a piece of "conceptual bullshit."
His remark was quoted and requoted vigorously not just by the BBC but by the entire "quality" press, who, according the the Guardian, derived a "sense of release" from Howells' bluntness.

    B

  • bullshit The word bullshit occurs in numerous dictionaries.  The following,  fairly contentious,  definition is taken from Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia:
"Bullshit (often abbreviated 'BS' or shortened to 'bull' in more formal contexts) is a common English expletive meaning 'false statements' or, as an interjection, 'that statement is false.'  It usually has the further connotation that the speaker is making such statements to manipulate the listener or further an agenda, and either knows they are false or has no interest in their factual accuracy one way or the other. Talking bullshit is thus a lesser form of lying, and is likely to elicit a correspondingly weaker emotional response: whereas a liar may be greeted with outrage and hatred, an exponent of bullshit tends to be dismissed with a disinterested sneer.
Bullshit is commonly employed in sales, advertising, journalism and the broadcast media, and in some areas of religion, politics and 'borderline' sciences such as sociology, where truth and accuracy are far less important than the ability to achieve a suitable response in the audience. In many cases, such a response involves the gaining of popularity or favour, as is required in politics or advertising, although there are far more mundane examples of bullshit being involved in the lives of ordinary people. It is not at all uncommon to hear of somebody 'bullshitting' a job interview, for example, or to attribute their performance in an examination to their ability to bullshit. Bullshit is also used in the popular saying 'money talks, bullshit walks' meaning in a belittling way that people with money can reign supreme."
It's worth a visit to the Wikipedia site because the definition of bullshit contains links to original sources of bullshit. It is also worth visiting http://www.onelook.com, which - if you choose to search all dictionaries - will give you  22 sets of bullshit definitions.
